ABOUT HAYASHI
Hayashi’s journey began in 1983 when Sam Lam, originally from Hong Kong, founded the company in Bristol, UK, expanding shortly into France, Germany, and Eastern Europe. The brand’s name—meaning "small forest" in Japanese—originates from a logo inspired by an old Sony image and grew in reputation for polished craftsmanship, glossy catalogues, and high-quality gear produced in Taiwan.
The company pivoted through selling a wide range of martial arts equipment—kung fu robes, boxing gloves, head guards—and became a major player in kickboxing markets via organisations like WKA and WAKO. With a shift in ownership to Peter Kruckenhauser under Budoland in Germany, Hayashi refocused on traditional karate to meet WKF standards, especially after rule changes demanded protective equipment in competition. This transition established Hayashi as a household name in world-class karate gear.
Today, Hayashi’s goals emphasise:
- Delivering WKF-approved uniforms, protective gear, and accessories designed with elite karate coaches and athletes.
- Fusing tradition with innovation through varied fabric qualities, precise cuts, and continuous upgrades to suit both kata and kumite.
- Promoting sustainability, evidenced by eco-friendly lines like the Green Karate Gi, supporting global environmental responsibility.
This commitment ensures Hayashi remains “equipped to win,” serving everyone from beginners to international competitors with quality, reliability, and performance-focused karate gear.
